Local wrestlers prepare for big tournaments

Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol, and Luxemburg-Casco are among the over 120 teams participating in two of the state's biggest tournaments this weekend.

Luxemburg-Casco will look to repeat as Division 2 champions at the Bi-State Classic held at the LaCrosse Center Friday and Saturday. The Spartans had eight wrestlers place in the top 12 at the 68-team tournament, including a championship at 126 pounds for Bryce Bosman. The tournament, which begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, pits some of the best teams from Wisconsin and Minnesota against each other.

Southern Door and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol head south to battle on the mat at UW-Oshkosh for the On the Water Classic hosted by the Lourdes Academy. In the 64-team tourney, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol's Jeremy Jorns led the way with a 6th place finish in last year's edition while Southern Door's Griffin Slezewski was the most successful for his team, reaching the fifth consolation round before bowing out.  Wrestling begins in Oshkosh at 9:30 a.m.
