The dual was not short on forfeits, but Southern Door was able to pick up three wins in contested matches to cruise to a 62-18 victory against Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol.
In front of a packed gym in Institute, the dual started at 170 pounds, but the first contested match was not until 285 pounds when Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol's Nick West was able to reverse Southern Door's Brodie Overbeck pick up a first-period pin. The forfeit parade started up and stopped at 126 pounds where Kyle Conard was able to get six points right back for the Eagles with a 3rd period pin over former teammate Ben Denamur. The match of the evening was at 132 pounds between Southern Door's Griffin Slezewski and Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol's Peyton Hurth which came down to the final moments of the third period. After Hurth was able to get a 6-5 lead, Slezewski was able to get an escape with under 20 seconds remaining to force overtime. The crowd hit a fever pitch when Hurth almost got a takedown that would have ended the match, Slezewski was able to slip out and take control to earn the 8-6 overtime victory. Drew DeFere picked up a 17-2 technical fall to close out the dual. Ten out of the 14 weight classes resulted in forfeits. In an exhibition match, Sam Abel collected a pin over Lauri Puupponen.
Southern Door earns their first Packerland win while Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol falls to 0-2 in the conference.
