Young post players ready to lead Gibraltar girls

Payton Pluff has carried the bulk of the scoring this year for the Gibraltar girls basketball team, but when the senior graduates this spring, a couple of younger post players will be ready to carry the load. Karlee Kita and Sophia Alexander, both currently sophomores, have been tagged by head coach Josh Kropuenske as the next girls up to take over Pluff's post duties. Kita has already climbed her way into the starting lineup, where she averages 8.3 points per game. Kropuenske said she possesses a lot of the same traits that made Pluff such a dominant player over the years.

Alexander, while not quite at the scoring pace set by Pluff and Kita, also earned a lot of praise from Kropuenske. He said her toughness under the basket sets her apart from other girls.

The Vikings are currently 9-4 on the season and 7-2 in Packerland Conference play. A couple of tough tests await Gibraltar, with games against conference leaders Algoma and Kewaunee lurking in the coming weeks.
