Gibraltar boys fall to Sturgeon Bay 71-50 on 105.1 WSBW

The Gibraltar boys basketball team could not overcome a first-half assault from the Sturgeon Bay Clippers as they fell 71-50 on Monday night. The Vikings started out slowly and could not seem to find the basket as they entered the locker room with just 16 points at the half. Sturgeon Bay's Jake Schneider caused Gibraltar all kinds of problems from the opening tip, driving to the basket and sinking multiple three-point shots en route to a season-high 23 point performance. The second half saw a much-improved Gibraltar side, but the lead was too far away for the Vikings to put together any sort of a comeback attempt. The largest positive for the Vikings came from the resurgence of Ryan Murphy, who hit five three-pointers and finished with a season-high of 19. Other double-digit scorers included Sturgeon Bay's Carson Talbert (13) and Trent Ehlers (11), and Gibraltar's Andras Szakala (13).

The Vikings (4-6, 4-4) will next face Algoma this Friday in a matchup that could see Gibraltar get back above the .500 mark in the conference this season. Sturgeon Bay (8-5, 5-4) will face Seymour in a non-conference matchup that will see the Clippers face their second Bay Conference opponent in the last few days.
