Kewaunee girls basketball is riding high after 45-34 over rival Algoma Tuesday night. The eight annual Warm Hands, Warm Hearts game featured a mitten toss at halftime where fans tossed more than mittens. Winter clothing items of all sorts were donated by fans in attendance at last night's game.
Every time these two schools meet, the game is referred to the "War on the Shore." Tuesday, was a defensive battle. Likely Packerland Conference player of the year Sara Dax was the'X-Factor' again for Kewaunee. She tallied 18 points to lead all scorers. The Storm defense held Algoma to just 11 first-half points.
The win gives Kewaunee even more breathing room atop the conference standings now at (11-0) Algoma falls to (7-3). Gibraltar appears to be the only team that could now challenge for the conference crown. The Vikings were idle last night due to adverse weather conditions. The Vikings are (8-2).
