Southern Door wrestlers set sights on conference crown after win

A lone pin by Oconto's Troy Wenzel resulted in the only contested win on the evening in Southern Door's 72-6 victory. Academics, injuries, and sickness gave the Blue Devils only one wrestler to work with as the Eagles took their forfeits in stride. Southern Door's Brady Tooley was a late decision to wrestle Wenzel at 170 pounds since many Eagle wrestlers are moving down a weight class in the weeks leading up to the state series. Tooley gave Wenzel all he could handle but ultimately was pinned in the closing seconds of the third period. The victory sets the stage for next week's dual against Kewaunee as the two undefeated teams in the Packerland Conference look to capture the 2019 title. It will be carried live on 104.1 WRLU beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the pre-match show followed by the first whistle at 7 p.m.

Before the varsity match, the Southern Door Middle School team beat Oconto 104-15. The Eagles won 21 of its 24 matches.  Joshua Nachtwey, Braden Wessel, Hailey Veeser, Cody Nellis, Hayden  Jeanquardt, Alex Buhr, Issac Boudhain, Zack Grosbeier, Ethan Alexander, Kameron Robinson, Wyatt Wilke, Will Jandrin, and Lukas Kallin all posted pins during the dual.
