The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans girls avenged an early season loss to the Freedom Irish with an impressive 56-43 road victory Thursday night. The ninth consecutive win by the Spartans puts them in a first-place tie with Freedom in the North Eastern Conference while snapping the Irish’s 14 game winning streak.
Luxemburg-Casco (11-1, 13-3 overall) broke open a close 14-14 game in the first half with a 15-1 run and eventually took a 34-19 lead into intermission. Cassie Schiltz led the Spartans scoring with 22 points while Jenna Jorgenson added 13 points. Freedom (11-1, 15-2) did make a run in the second half behind five three-pointers by Callie Genke to get as close as seven points, but the Spartans showed poise and stellar defense to claim a convincing victory.
