Boys basketball preview: Strange week ends in games

Practice time has been at a premium this week due to Winter Storm Austin, but a full slate of area boys basketball is on the docket for Friday night.

The conference’s top two scorers meet in Green Bay when Southern Door takes its Packerland winning streak to NEW Lutheran. Kyle Daoust leads the conference with 22.4 points game, followed by the Blazers’ all time leading scorer Samuel Meerstein, who averages 20.5 per game.

Kewaunee and Sturgeon Bay can potentially leapfrog NEW Lutheran if the Blazers loses and one of them wins. Carson Talbert is averaging a double-double a game with 18.4 points and 10.1 rebounds a game.

Sevastopol hopes to snap its conference losing streak at three at Oconto. Robby Pollman leads the Pioneers with 18.3 points a game.

Algoma hopes to get their first conference win of the season when it faces Gibraltar. The Vikings’ Evan Henry is third in the conference with 9.2 rebounds per game.

Packerland conference games begin at 7:30 p.m.

In the North Eastern Conference, Luxemburg-Casco looks to make it two in a row when they play at Wrightstown at 7 p.m.  The Spartans hope to build off their last victory at Oconto Falls as they hope to play a role breaking apart a three-way log jam at the top with Wrightstown, Freedom and Denmark boasting 7-2 conference records. A win would also get the Spartans above .500 on the season.
