Storm powers past Eagles for wrestling title

The Kewaunee Storm captured their second straight Packerland Conference title in wrestling Monday night with a 53-18 win over the Southern Door Eagles.

 

The evening started with a pin by Southern Door's Austin Falish, but Max and Jack Severin each had pins while Logan Steinhorst added a regular decision at 120 pounds and Nathan VanGoethem scored a 14-0 major decision at 132 pounds to make the lead 19-6. The Storm and Eagles would exchange victories the next two weight classes with Drew Price earning a 4-2 regular decision for Southern Door and Mason Jeanquart collecting a 13-3 major decision at 145. After a forfeit by the Storm narrowed the lead to 23-15, Grant Englebert wrestled two weight classes up to get a hard-fought 4-0 victory at 160 pounds. The Storm would put the dual on ice with three forfeit and a pin by Paul Wery at 220 pounds.

 

Both teams will compete this Saturday at the regional tournament hosted by Southern Door.
