Gibraltar girls defeat Crivitz 48-32 on 105.1 WSBW

The Gibraltar girls basketball team defeated a tough non-conference opponent on Sunday, overcoming Crivitz 48-32 at the Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh.

Although the game started out with both teams trading baskets, with Gibraltar's Karlee Kita and Crivitz's Chloe Gruszynski getting out to particularly hot starts, Gibraltar would take a lead about a quarter of the way into the first half and never looked back. A stifling defense looked even more comfortable than usual on the larger court and forced several Wolverine turnovers that led to points on the other end of the court.

Halftime would come with the Vikings leading 31-18, and although the offensive production would slow for both teams in the second half, Gibraltar kept a steady enough pace to maintain the lead and take the 16-point victory.

Payton Pluff had another excellent performance for Gibraltar, leading all scorers with 18 points. Abby Sitte added 8 points, but her greatest contribution in other areas. The 5'4" guard picked up 11 boards and 8 assists to lead the team in both categories. Gruszynski would end the game with 15 points to lead the Wolverines.

The victory improves Gibraltar's record to 13-6 on the season, while Crivitz drops to 14-5 on the year. Gibraltar will play three more games this week, starting with their Senior Night game against Sevastopol on Monday. Chilton and Southern Door await the Vikings later this week.
