Spartans search for third straight state berth on 96.7 WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans look to make it back to the UW Field House for a third year in a row when they wrestle Winneconne and the winner of Freedom/Tomahawk at the WIAA Team Sectional meet Wednesday night in Brillion.

The Spartans are coming off a regional championship in Valders Saturday, boasting seven sectional qualifiers and edging #2 Wrightstown 226-211 in the team scores. Nathan Ronsman, Reece Worachek, and Colton Worachek earned titles while Hunter Joniaux, Lucas Joniaux, Bryce Bosman, and Kyle Kroll earned spots with runner-up finishes. The Wolves earned their spot in the team sectional by posting 205 points in the Little Chute regional, qualifying five wrestlers for the next round. Caleb Meunier, Anthony Keuntjes, and Evan Miller all won individual titles.

The winner takes on the victor in the other semifinal featuring conference rival Freedom and Tomahawk. Freedom is sending 12 to individual sectionals this weekend one year after the Spartans topped the Irish in last year's sectional semifinal 37-23. The Hatchets had 11 sectional qualifiers.

Tim Kowols and Luxemburg-Casco coaching legend Bob Berceau will have the call on 96.7 WBDK beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the pre-match show followed by the first whistle at 6 p.m. If the Spartans win, the next match will be carried live on 96.7 WBDK beginning at 8 p.m.

In other local wrestling, Kewaunee will travel to Markesan for their Division 3 team sectional duals. Kewaunee saw seven of its wrestlers qualify for sectionals, earning 234.5 points and the edge over Reedsville. Taking first place at their weight classes for the Storm included Jack Severin, Paul Wery, Nathan VanGoethem, Dylan Steinhorst, and Travis Reinke. Logan Steinhorst and Max Severin earned their slots with runner-up finishes. Their reward is facing Princeton before facing the winner of Kenosha Christian Life and Random Lake.
