Road to Green Bay begins for area girls' teams

While Kewaunee, Gibraltar, and Luxemburg-Casco earned themselves the night off, four other local teams begin chasing their state tournament dreams Tuesday night.

Algoma enters regionals as a seven seed as they host Roncalli. The Wolves finished in third place behind Kewaunee and Gibraltar and are led by Makayla Guilette's 16.3 points per game. A win sends them to Howards Grove for the regional semifinals.

The Sevastopol Pioneers enter the playoffs on a high note, beating Reedsville 56-46 ahead of its first-round match-up against St. Mary's Springs. Finishing the Packerland slate 0-16, the Pioneers were 5-1 in non-conference match-ups. Winner would head to Oostburg.

Sturgeon Bay and Southern Door will renew their county rivalry to earn a trip to the next round of the WIAA Division 3 playoffs. The Eagles scored 60-plus points in both wins over the Clippers this season. The Clippers scored a major upset last week, defeating Algoma 47-27. Winner heads to Sheboygan Falls for their next match-up.
