WIAA Boys' Basketball Playoffs: Road to Madison begins tonight

In addition to Gibraltar’s matchup against Lena on 105.1 The Viking and Luxemburg-Casco’s battle against Green Bay West on 96.7 WBDK, four other games are taking place with hopes of a state appearance in Madison three weeks from now in sight in the WIAA Playoffs.

Algoma hopes to rebound from a tough loss to Sturgeon Bay its last time out when they travel to Kohler. The Wolves are looking for their second win of the season, but will have to slow down Kohler’s Carter Gebler, who averages just shy of 20 points a game and over three assists. Carter Zimmerman leads the Wolves in scoring with 7.1 points per game while dishing out three assists.

Kewaunee welcomes Highway 42 rival Two Rivers in its first round game. Ryan Carmichael averages over 15 points a game, but has shown his ability to distribute with four assists a game as well. Alex Rohr and Alex Hewett help with the offensive attack. The Raiders’ Cam Daffner leads the team in scoring with 10.5 points per game.

Sevastopol hopes to snap a three game slide when it travels to St. Mary’s Springs. It has a chance to do so if it can stop Cade Christensen, who is averaging almost a double-double a game with 20.5 points and 8.1 rebounds. Robby Pollman leads the Pioneers in scoring with almost 18 points per game.

Sturgeon Bay stays at home against Cedar Grove-Belgium, which snapped a three game losing streak with its win over Algoma. Carson Talbert, Mitchell Jackson, and Jake Schneider are all averaging double figures for the Clippers, with Talbert on the doorstep of averaging a double double with just over nine rebounds a game. The offense flows through Ethan Wonser for Cedar Grove-Belgium, who averages 12.6 points per game and six rebounds a game.

All playoff games start at 7 p.m.
