Southern Door has new track & field coach

Southern Door has found a new track and field coach. Former Sturgeon Bay assistant track and field coach John Vercauteren announced that he will be taking over the program rich in tradition. Vercauteren cited the Eagles state championship in 1993 and Jim Flanigan Jr.'s all-time Division 2 shot put record holder as past accomplishments he is most excited to follow after.

He released the following statement on Wednesday:

"As track season approaches a lot of people have asked where and what I’ll be coaching. I’m very happy to announce that I’ve accepted the head varsity coaching position at Southern Door High School. I’m extremely excited to coach at a school with a great history, including the Wisconsin Division 2 record in points scored at the state meet in 1993 and the all-time Division 2 Shot Put record holder in Jim Flanigan. I am excited to work with a great staff of seasoned assistant coaches and an administration that supports its coaches. I’d also like to thank all the coaches and athletes at Sturgeon Bay that I’ve worked with in the last 5 years, especially Head Coach Mike LeRoy who I coached with in three conference championship seasons. I look forward to our clashes in the future."
