Southern Door shocked by Valders AGAIN on 102.1 FM

Southern Door boys basketball was eliminated from the postseason tournament for the sixth time in seven years by the Valders Vikings in a 58-52 devastating defeat Saturday night. The Vikings celebrated on the hardwood at Eagle Gymnasium in front of a shocked Southern Door crowd live on 102.1 FM WRKU.

The Vikings took their first lead in the game with 8:44 remaining in the second half.

Kyle Daoust led all scorers with 23 points. He finished just four points shy of tying Nathan Vogel for the all-time scoring lead in Southern Door school history. Vogel keeps the record with 1,566 points while Daoust finished his Eagles career with 1,562.

The difference in the game was Southern Door's 6/17 free throw shooting.

Derik LeCaptain and Max Pierre each scored ten points and Ryan Claflin tallied seven points in the loss.

Valders was led by Trevor Leist's 23 points. Reese Brown scored 13 points and Fletcher Dallas scored 10 points in the win.

After an (11-10) regular season Valders is back to the sectional semi-final Thursday night in Chilton. The Vikings were just (7-7) in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference but their drive and dish offense again did in the Eagles.

Southern Door loses one of the all-time great senior classes and will leave a gaping void for the program to try and replace next season. The lone representatives left in the tournament from Door and Kewaunee COunties is now Gibraltar playing in Division 5 Thursday against N.E.W. Lutheran.
