Former Sevastopol swimmer Max McHugh’s first Big Ten Conference Championships appearance helped him earn freshman of the year honors. Swimming for the University of Minnesota, McHugh bested a mark set by his brother when he swam a school history making 51.39 in the 100 breaststroke in the preliminary round. During the championships held in Iowa City over the weekend, McHugh was part of a 5th place finishing 200-yard medley relay team and 3rd place finishing 400-yard medley relay team. He also finished quite well in his individual events, taking 2nd place in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke events.
