Brandon Woodruff and Matt Albers never had to pitch out of the stretch and the Brewers bats came alive on Sunday against the Phillies at home. Milwaukee defeated Philadelphia 9-1. Woodruff took a no-hitter into the sixth inning when the Phillies Andrew Knapp hit a home run. It was the only baserunner Woodruff allowed all game. He struck out 10 in 9 innings of work. Matt Albers struck out 2 in a perfect ninth inning.
The Brewers hit 5 home runs on the day with Ben Gamel starting off scoring with a solo home run in the third. He would hit another homer in the eighth. Yasmani Grandal, Christian Yelich and Hernan Perez also went deep. Woodruff helped his own cause with 2 RBI hits.
Milwaukee begins a two-game series on Memorial Day in Minnesota against the first-place Twins. Monday's game begins at 6:10 PM.
