Behind a strong outing by Zach Davies, the Milwaukee Brewers got a series win on getaway day, defeating the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-2.
Davies' eight innings was what the doctor ordered for a Brewers team with a tiring bullpen. He struck out three with a pair of RBI sacrifices the only blemishes on the day.
The Brewers jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Manny Pina recorded an RBI groundout in the second inning and Eric Thames slugged his seventh home run of the season in the third inning. With the lead sitting at just 3-2, Thames came through again in the fifth inning with an RBI double.
The Brewers return home with a three game set against the Marlins beginning Tuesday and a return trip by the Pirates for the weekend.
