Door County Baseball League as popular as ever

The Door County Baseball League (DCL) has been around since the Truman Administration and is still going strong. It began in 1951 when Washington Island won the first regular season and grand championship. The DCL has eight teams from Northern and Southern Door County. The Sister Bay Bays are the reigning champions and currently sit in first place for this season. Rick Gigot has been the president of the league since 2015. He played in the DCL for 25 years. Gigot says Door County loves sports and the league has a good brand of baseball.

Almost all players in the DCL live in Door County. The league has relaxed its rules in recent years about the requirement to live in the county to play. There is a game on Friday between the Institute Cubs and the Baileys Harbor Athletics. The three games scheduled for Sunday are Egg Harbor Indians at West Jacksonport Ports, Sister Bay Bays at Kolberg Braves and Maplewood Mets at Washington Island Islanders.
