Reds knock around Davies and win big over Brewers

The normally-reliable Zach Davies got knocked around on Tuesday night at Miller Park against the Reds. Davies hadn't allowed more than one earned run in four straight starts but that streak ended in the first inning. Eugenio Suarez and Jesse Winker each hit two-run homers off him in the first. Davies would allow two earned runs in the fifth as the Reds extended their lead to 9-0 and eventually win 14-6. The bullpen also struggled for Milwaukee. Alex Claudio and Burch Smith combined to allow seven earned runs in just three innings of work. Jay Jackson was the lone bright spot on the mound, pitching the final two innings and only allowing a walk and striking out 3.

Manny Pina came off the bench to provide most of the offense for the Brewers. He hit a two-run homer in the sixth and a two-run single in the eighth.

The Reds have now taken the first two games of the series. Milwaukee will try to salvage the final game of the series in a Wednesday matinee at Miller Park. First pitch is at 1:10 PM.
