Brewers nearly no-hit

A Yasmani Grandal ground-rule double with two outs in the eighth inning was the only thing that separated the Milwaukee Brewers from getting just shutout by the St. Louis Cardinals to getting no-hit by them.

The pitcher's duel between Zach Davies and Dakota Hudson left the score knotted at zero until the fifth inning when the Cardinals pushed past two runs thanks to a RBI groundout by Kolten Wong and a run-scoring single by Dexter Fowler. Paul DeJong extended the lead with a home run in the sixth. Giovanny Gallegos was on the mound when Grandal spoiled the no-hit bid, but Andrew Miller nailed down the save in the ninth.

The Cardinals and Brewers meet again Busch Stadium Tuesday night at 6:45 p.m.
