Algoma starts season strong with win

Eight-man football suits the Wolves well. Algoma made the transition Friday night, hosting Green Bay New Lutheran/Oneida, pitching a shutout. The Wolves carried the day 32-0.

Algoma started off slow offensively, scoring just once in the first quarter. The five-yard scamper was followed by an unsuccessful two-point conversion and after twelve minutes it was Algoma nursing a 6-0 lead.

Brett Benesh got loose in the second quarter including a 60-yard dash, a two-point reception, and a six-yard TD run. Benesh ended the day with 112 yards on just four carries. It was 20-0 Wolves at halftime.

Algoma would take on two more touchdowns in the second half. The Wolves were physical up front, pounding out 309 yards on the ground to 85 through the air. Quarterback Carter Zimmerman was 7 for 17 with a touchdown on the night. Algoma looks to tackle the defending state champs, Sevastopol, on Thursday night.
