Checkers wave for season finale at The Hill

82 drivers checked in to do battle for the final race of the 2019 season. There were 25 Sport Mods, 20 Street Stocks, 17 Stock Cars, 14 Modifieds and 6 Bombers.

The Modifieds made their first appearance of the season and Kelsy Hayes drew the pole. Hayes jumped out to an early lead with Mike Wedelstadt and Kyle Kudick in hot pursuit. Wedelstadt proved to be too tough as he used the top groove to take the lead. Kudick was the next to work past Hayes and into the runner up position. Wedelstadt went unchallenged the remainder of the event to score a clean sweep on the night. Kudick came home in the runner-up position, Jason Ebert won a race long battle to place third, Todd Dart was fourth and Jeremy Jacobs completed the top five.

In Street Stock action it was Dan Van Pay leading the opening laps as David Hoerning and Troy Muench began to apply pressure early. Hoerning was able to dispose of Muench, setting his sights on Van Pay. On lap 8, Hoerning made the pass for the top spot. Van Pay dogged Hoerning all the way to checker but it wasn’t enough as Hoerning earned his first win of the season. Van Pay had to settle for second. Dave DeGrave came home third while driving his back-up car, Muench was fourth and John Denil Jr had his best run of the season to place fifth.

Several cautions couldn’t slow Shawn Havel’s charge as he easily pulled away from the pack, picking up the win over Rod Snellenberger in the Stock Cars. David Bouche was third, John Anschutz took fourth and 2019 champion Brett Wenzel rounded out the top five.

Cody Rass led all 20 laps to score his second feature win of the season in the Sport Mods. Dennis Miesler placed a solid second, 2019 champion Chris Budzban was third after starting 15th, Cole Magnin placed fourth in his first visit of the season and Andy Klosterman was fifth.

2019 Bomber champion Tony Everard picked up his second win of the season, leading every lap of the feature.
