Brewers catch Cubs in wild card chase

The Milwaukee Brewers are taking full advantage of the freefall of their southern neighbors after beating the Miami Marlins 7-5 Wednesday.

Trent Grisham opened the scoring for the Brewers with his fifth home run of the season, only to have it matched by a Starlin Castro sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the first inning. After the Marlins took a 2-1 lead, the Brewers stormed back to take the lead thanks to a Mike Moustakas home run in the third inning and a Zach Davies RBI single in the fourth. A pair of home runs tied the game up for the Marlins in the seventh inning, but it was Moustakas who gave the Brewers the final two runs it needed as he slugged his second dinger of the game and his 33rd of the season in the top of the ninth inning. Josh Hader nailed it down in the bottom half of the ninth to secure his 30th save of the season.

The Brewers will finish its series with the Marlins this afternoon at 12:10 with hopes of having the second wild card slot all to themselves if the Chicago Cubs' freefall continues in San Diego.
