Spartans' rally fall shorts 24-21 to Freedom on WBDK

In a nail-biting finish, the Luxemburg -Casco Spartans came up four yards short of a remarkable comeback Friday night in Freedom as the Irish prevailed 24-21 in a North Eastern Conference football game.  Down 24-7 in the fourth quarter, the Spartans rallied with two touchdowns and drove to the Irish four-yard line in the final three minutes.  Faced with a first and goal from the four-yard line with: 09 seconds left, the Freedom defense came up big and stopped quarterback Matt Cravillion on a rollout pass/run option play to secure the victory.

After a scoreless first quarter, Freedom (3-0, 4-0 overall) controlled the middle two quarters by scoring 24 unanswered points after the Spartans took the lead early in the second quarter on a 17-yard touchdown run by Reece Worachek.  The Irish scored right before halftime on a one-yard quarterback sneak by Jackson Higgins after a long pass reception set up the score in the final seconds of the half.

Worachek had another monster game for the Spartans rushing for an impressive 295 yards and two touchdowns.

The Spartans (1-2, 1-3 overall) will now look to bounce back next week at home as they take on the Clintonville Truckers Friday night in a game that will be broadcast on 96.7 FM WBDK starting at 6:30 pm with the pregame show.
