Packers turn back Vikings in home opener

The Green and Gold are now 2-0 on the season winning with solid defense again. Last week’s victory against the Bears was described as ugly by players and coaches alike. The offense came out guns blazing in response Sunday. The opening scoring drive went 75 yards on four plays with Aaron Rodgers capping it off by connecting with running back Jamaal Williams on a screen pass. The Pack went up 14-0 on another Rodgers touchdown pass to Geronimo Allison from 12 yards out. Early in the second quarter the Packers again punched it in on a two-yard run by Aaron Jones.

Then it stopped. From 21-0, the lead was shaved to 21-16 by the end of the third. No scoring occurred in the fourth and Green Bay sent the crowd home happy. Rodgers was 22-34 for 209 yards and two touchdowns. No interceptions but a lost fumble marred an otherwise clean stat sheet. Aaron Jones led the way on the ground, carrying the ball 23 times for 116 yards and a score. Davante Adams was the primary receiver with 106 yards on seven catches.

The Packer defense allowed over 400 yards of offense but forced turnovers regularly. Kirk Cousins threw two picks and lost a fumble. Stefon Diggs put the ball on the ground which was recovered by Green Bay. Chad Beebe fumbled twice but Minnesota kept possession. Green Bay hosts Denver in Week Three next Sunday.
