Cross country courses across northeast Wisconsin resembled steeplechase races and it was no exception in Valders where Luxemburg-Casco, Sevastopol, and Sturgeon Bay competed Thursday.
The Spartans were undeterred though with the boys finishing in third and the girls in second at the Bob Burzynski Invitational. Spencer Thiry (12th, 19:00) and Alyssa Delebreau (6th, 22:51) helped pace the Spartans to their squad's respective top three finishes.
The top local finisher was Sevastopol's Olivia Stenzel, who finished 2nd in the hilly 5K course on the girls' side in 21:20.
