Evenson's amazing second half leads Sevastopol to victory

A thick fog couldn't stop Spencer Evenson from taking over in the second half and leading Sevastopol to a 46-34 victory over Wausaukee on Friday night. The game was broadcasted on 104.1 WRLU and DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com. It was hard for fans and broadcasters to see much of what happened on Friday night as a thick fog rolled onto the Sevastopol football field about a half-hour before the game and stayed the whole way.

It didn't seem to affect the play on the field all that much and certainly didn't hurt Spencer Evenson. He had touchdown runs of 72 and 12 yards as well as an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, all in the second half. He broke several tackles on the 72-yard run. They needed it since the Pioneers trailed 14-8 at the half after Wausaukee scored a touchdown with 5 seconds left in the second quarter.

On the first play from scrimmage in the second half, Chase Mathis ran for a touchdown from 65 yards out for the Rangers. That was one of his several big runs in the game although he would later suffer a left leg injury.

Sevastopol started off the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Triston Beauchamp to Logan Beyer in the first quarter. Beyer would also have a 66-yard reception later in the game.

It was a wild back-and-forth second half with Cesar Sandoval clinching the game with under a minute left with an interception, the first of his career. Evenson ended up with 19 carries for 230 yards plus the kickoff return touchdown. He also made several tackles and pass breakups on Wausaukee star receiver Brandon Shigouri.

It was the first win of the season for the Pioneers and they are now 1-4 overall. Sevastopol will take on Gillett next Friday on the road. That game will be heard on 104.1 WRLU and streamed at DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 PM and kickoff at 7 PM.
