Washington Island thankful for partnership with Gibraltar

With a district student population of under 100, the opportunities to participate in interscholastic sports is a little tough to do on Washington Island.

The Bucks only field teams in four sports: equestrian, trap shooting, cross country, and basketball. Athletes wanting to do more must arrange their schedules to hop on the ferry to head to Gibraltar for games and some practices while working with island coaches when they are unable to make the trip. Washington Island principal Michelle Kanipes is thankful for the opportunities Gibraltar athletic director Peggy Tanck and Gibraltar Area Schools are able to provide.

Upcoming Washington Island sporting competitions include the Wisconsin Interscholastic Horsemanship Association State Finals October 25th through 27th in Madison.
