With the Brewers continuing to roll and the Cubs continuing to free-fall the Brewers are just one win away from clinching a Wild Card spot. Milwaukee won at Cincinnati 4-2 behind a great performance from the bullpen and Ryan Braun's home run. Pittsburgh knocked off the Cubs 9-2. The Brewers magic number is down to 1 which means one Brewers win or one Cubs loss will clinch a playoff berth. The worst the Brewers can finish now is in a tie for the second Wild Card spot with five games left for both teams.
Brent Suter, Drew Pomerantz and Josh Hader combined to pitch six shutout innings in relief on Tuesday after starter Adrian Houser allowed two runs in the first inning. Ryan Braun hit a solo homer in the second inning and the Brewers took the lead for good in the third. Yasmani Grandal's RBI double and Keston Hiura's sac fly drove home the runs in that inning. Milwaukee would add an insurance run in the ninth.
The Brewers can clinch a playoff spot Tuesday night in Cincinnati with the first pitch coming at 5:40.
