Sevastopol winning streak ends on 104.1 WRLU

The Sevastopol Pioneers football team had a couple of three-game winning streaks that came to an end on Friday night at Gibraltar in a game broadcasted on 104.1 WRLU and 105.1 The Viking. Sevastopol was coming into the contest winning three in a row after starting the season off 0-4. The Pioneers also had taken three in a row from their rival Gibraltar. On a cold, wet, windy night Gibraltar prevailed 36-14.

Sevastopol was able to force three Gibraltar turnovers after forcing five last week. But the Vikings were able to get enough offense from their running attack with Alex Laughlin and Luke Steebs each running for over 150 yards.

After a scoreless first quarter, Gibraltar got two touchdown runs in the second quarter from the quarterback Steebs. Sevastopol finally got on the board in the third quarter after the Pioneers recovered a fumble deep in Gibraltar territory. Spencer Evenson ran in a touchdown from five yards out. Alex Laughlin got a touchdown run for Gibraltar to extend the lead to 22-8. Triston Beauchamp brought Sevastopol back within one score with a touchdown run of this own. Gibraltar was able to seal the game with two late touchdowns to pull out a victory that probably wasn't as lopsided as the final score might indicate.

Sevastopol is now 3-5 overall on the season and 3-4 in the MONLPC. The Pioneers have a chance to get back to .500 in the conference with a home win next week against Wabeno/Laona. That game will be on 104.1 WRLU and DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com. The pregame show will begin at 6:30 PM and kickoff at 7.
