Gibraltar/Sevastopol pulls massive upset over Sturgeon Bay on 103.3 The Clipper

The Sturgeon Bay boys soccer team had not lost a Packerland Conference game since joining the league in the 2017 season...until Monday night. Gibraltar/Sevastopol scored a goal in the 6th minute in the game and then held on the final 84 minutes to come away with a 1-0 shocking upset victory. The game was broadcasted on 103.3 The Clipper and DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com. Kiegan Sargent knocked a shot past Clipper goalkeeper Joe Wind for the only score of the match.

Sturgeon Bay Head Coach Todd Maas was worried before the game about his team coming out flat after picking up a big victory on Saturday on the road against Notre Dame in Green Bay. He also said the team doesn't ever seem to play well at Gibraltar and both worries ended up being legitimate. Sturgeon Bay was also without their star forward Eli Dietzel who was out with a hip flexor injury. Coach Maas hopes to have him back for when the playoffs begin next Thursday.

Sturgeon Bay had a rush of good goal-scoring opportunities in the last 25 minutes or so of the game but couldn't put a ball past Viking goalkeeper Hayden Hoffman who was always in the right position to make a save.

Gibraltar/Sevastopol will try to beat another team above them in the Packerland standings on Tuesday when they host Green Bay NEW Lutheran, kickoff at 6:30 PM. Sturgeon Bay will have a couple of days to rest before their next game on Thursday at home against Algoma. That game will be broadcast on 103.3 The Clipper and DoorKewauneeHighSchoolSports.com with the pregame starting at 6 PM and kickoff at 7.  Other action locally includes Luxemburg-Casco playing at Clintonville and Algoma hosting Freedom.
