Local high school sports get layoff

Local high school athletes will get a little bit of time to rest up before the winter season gets underway.


State tournament finals for Sturgeon Bay soccer and Luxemburg-Casco along with sectionals for the Door County United swim team this weekend ended what was a successful fall season for area sports teams. In football, Gibraltar and Kewaunee were able to post playoff victories while Sevastopol's Olivia Stenzel placed in the top 60 at the WIAA Division 3 State Cross Country meet. Sturgeon Bay won its second state soccer title while Luxemburg-Casco was crowned state champions in volleyball for a school first.


Practices will begin over the coming weeks with girls basketball starting Monday and boys swimming, boys basketball, wrestling,  beginning November 18th.
