The winter sports season kicks off for the WIAA this week with girls basketball scrimmages. Several teams in the Packerland Conference will be participating. Gibraltar tips off on Friday with Southern Door, Kewaunee, the NEC's Luxemburg-Casco, and Algoma on the court Saturday. 

What is notable are the teams without any scrimmages listed including Sturgeon Bay and Sevastopol. Practices just started on Monday with games next week. Given that condensed schedule it will definitely make the early season matchups unpredictable. Volleyball had a similar format this year.
