The Gibraltar Vikings kicked off their season on a happy note while other area teams wait to get their first licks of the regular season.

On Thursday, Gibraltar earned a thrilling 48-47 win over Coleman while Sturgeon Bay lost at Shawano 49-40.

Friday night hoops features the season opener for Algoma and Southern Door. The Wolves make the long trip to Wausaukee to face the Rangers for a 6 p.m. tip while Southern Door heads out of town as well for a 7:15 p.m. matchup against Roncalli.
