Wisconsin Badgers at Rutgers Wednesday

The University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team goes from one of the Big Ten’s oldest programs to one of its newest. After opening Big Ten play with a win over Indiana this weekend, they are at Rutgers on Wednesday night. Rutgers is 6-3 overall but it has not been against the best competition. The Scarlet Knights have had matchups against mid-majors like St. Bonaventure and Stephen F. Austin. Those are the highlights of nonconference play. The Badgers should pose a sterner test than Niagara, Bryant, or the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Rutgers has lost to Pittsburgh and Michigan State its last two times out.

For Wisconsin, it is a case of finding consistent offense. The Badgers have lacked punch away from the Kohl Center. Playing in Brooklyn, not far from Rutgers’ New Jersey campus, and in North Carolina against the Wolfpack, the Badgers had to scrape for 50 points in each game. If Rutgers can force Wisconsin into stagnant offense like that again Wednesday, the Badgers stand a good chance of dropping their third game out of their last four. Wisconsin hopes that the 84 it netted against Indiana in the conference opener is a harbinger of things to come.
