Packers capture second seed

The Green Bay Packers ended up being just inches away from getting the top seed in the NFC Playoffs, but had to earn a tough 23-20 victory over the Detroit Lions before that could even be a possibility.

Much like their previous meeting, the Lions looked like the better team by jumping out to a two-touchdown lead thanks to a trick play ending with quarterback David Blough catching a pass and a Kerryon Johnson rush. Mason Crosby would get the Packers on the board with a field goal, but a couple of big plays for the Lions helped Matt Prater keep it a 14 point lead at the break. Aaron Rodgers broke out of his first-half funk with a third-quarter touchdown pass to Davante Adams before the Packers took control of the game in the fourth quarter. Crosby and Prater once again traded field goals before Rodgers found Allen Lazard from 28 yards out to tie the game at 20. After the Packers turned the Lions offense, Crosby was able to kick the game-winner from 33 yards out to clinch the first-round bye. A close call victory by the 49ers over the Seahawks cemented the Packers as the second seed and will now wait to play either the Saints, Eagles, or the Seahawks.
