In a high-scoring affair Monday night the Luxemburg-Casco girls’ basketball team held on to defeat the Marinette Marines 84-71 in a North Eastern Conference game In Luxemburg.
The Spartans were able to hit three-point shots and take advantage of extra chances under the hoop in the first half to claim a 46-38 lead at intermission.
Building a double-digit lead in the second half, the Spartans withstood a run by Marinette in which the Marines closed the lead to a single point. Clutch baskets and free throws in the final four minutes salted the game away for Luxemburg-Casco as Lauren Adams scored a team-high 25 points, including 16 in the first half. Cassie Flynn added 16 points while Heather Dart contributed 14 and Taylor Thiry knocked down 13 more to lead a balanced attack for the Spartans.
L-C needed a big offensive night to counter Marinette’s Katelyn Kitzinger who had a career night scoring 35 points for the Marines.
Luxemburg-Casco (3-5, 3-7 overall) will now host Oconto Falls Thursday before playing their third straight home game next Monday against Denmark in a game that will be broadcast on 96.7FM WBDK and streamed on DoorKewauneeCountyHighSchool.com.
