Spartans tame Mustangs 71-62 on WBDK

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartan boys won their 7th consecutive game Monday night with an impressive 71-62 victory over the Little Chute Mustangs in Luxemburg.  The Spartans overcame foul trouble throughout the game and were spurred by the bench play of sophomore Owen Deprez who scored 12 points and added energy on the court with spirited play.  Junior Ryan Robillard scored a three-point basket at the halftime buzzer to tie the game at 27-27 going into intermission.  The Spartans then went on a 10-0 run to start the second half in the first four minutes and even extended the lead to 16 points.  Little Chute made a furious comeback to close within five points in the final minutes but the Spartans were able to hit key free throws at the end to seal the victory.  The Mustangs struggled at the free-throw line all night missing 18 of 36 while the Spartans converted on 16 of 25 from the charity stripe, unofficially.  Kade VanAsten led Little Chute with 22 points while Logan Doell paced the Spartans with 18 and freshman Peyton Mrotek added 11.  The Spartans (10-4, 12-5 overall) will now travel to Freedom to play the Irish Thursday night in the North Eastern Conference before returning home to face Southern Door in a non-conference game Friday,  The next L-C boys' basketball radio broadcast on WBDK 96.7FM will be next Tuesday, February 18  as the Spartans host Denmark on Senior Night.
