Wrestlers begin state tournament journey

Six of the area's 10 qualifiers at this weekend's individual state wrestling tournament will begin their quest for the podium in Madison Thursday night.

Kewaunee's Jack Severin and Luxemburg-Casco's Easton Worachek, Reece Worachek, and Lucas Joniaux will get the night off to scout their opponents after winning their respective weight classes at last weekend's Division 2 sectional tournament in Oconto Falls. At 120 pounds for Luxemburg-Casco, Hunter Joniaux will open up the weekend against Plymouth's Devin Gore with Lodi's Chandler Curtis waiting in the second round. Isaac Blohowiak will face Payton Kostka of Regis/Altoona with a chance to wrestle Tre'veon Bivens from Turner Friday morning. Travis LeGrave will face James Roche of Columbus before possibly facing North Fond du Lac/St. Mary's Springs' Marcus Orlandoni at 220 pounds. Heavyweight Kyle Kroll faces GET-MM's Trevor Daffinson before a possible date with Belmont/Platteville's Michael Douglas.

In Division 3, Southern Door's Grant Englebert gets a crack at Stratford's Jacob Heiden for the right to face Logan Schneider of Lancaster. Griffin Slezewski wrestles a little bit earlier at 126 pounds against  Ashton Miess of Riverdale with a match against Kenosha Christian Life's Javis Pinter on the line.

Thursday's session begins at 7:15 p.m. with winners wrestling again Friday morning at 11:15.
