College basketball round-up: Phoenix sweep, Badgers win

Division1 college basketball teams in Wisconsin almost swept their competition Thursday evening.

 

The Wisconsin Badgers scored another upset, defeating #19 Michigan 81-74. D'Mitrik Trice scored a team-leading 28 points with Micah Potter and Aleem Ford each pitching in 18 as well. The Badgers were able to hold off a Wolverine rally in the second half after entering the frame with a 10 point lead.

 

The Green Bay Phoenix women started off their weekend of action on a high note, beating Cleveland State 81-51 Thursday morning. Karly Murphy led the way with 29 points for the Phoenix while Frankie Wurtz chipped in another 22 points. The Phoenix closed the door on the Vikings in the fourth quarter, outscoring their visitors 27-10.

 

The Phoenix men got the same result in the evening at the Resch Center, dispatching Youngstown State 102-92. JayQuan McCloud scored his 1000th point for the Phoenix as a part of a 23 point evening. Six other Phoenix players finished in double figures with a chance to clinch a #3 seed in the Horizon League Tournament when the men and women host a Homecoming doubleheader on Saturday at the Kress Center.
