Wrestling round-up: L-C's Legrave advances

The Door Peninsula's contingent at the WIAA Individual State Wrestling Tournament in Madison has been cut in half after Thursday's opening round at the Kohl Center.

In Division 3, Southern Door's Grant Englebert and Griffin Slezewski overcame challenges just to make the state tournament. Englebert, who opened the season with an injured shoulder, lost his first-round matchup to Stratford's Jacob Heiden 8-7. Slezewski beat cancer to return to the mats in Madison for the first time since his freshman year. He saw his season end with a major decision defeat to Ashton Miess.

In Division 2, Luxemburg-Casco's Travis Legrave was the only local wrestler to win Thursday night with a pin of Columbus' James Roche. Hunter Joniaux, Issac Blohowiak, Kyle Kroll all saw their seasons end with losses in their respective brackets.

When the Division 2 wrestling action begins again Friday morning at 11:15, L-C's Easton Worachek will meet Northwestern's Tommy Brown at 106 pounds, Kewaunee's Jack Severin will face Somerset's Tommy Hantsbarger at 126 pounds, L-C's Lucas Joniaux will match up against Gus Donovan of Richland Center at 132 pounds, L-C's Reece Worachek will grapple with Aaron Heine of Jefferson at 182 pounds, and Travis Legrave will look for his second win for L-C at 220 pounds with Marcus Orlandoni of St. Mary's Springs/North Fond du Lac standing in his way.
