Gibraltar drops heartbreaker in regional semis on 105.1 WSBW

For the second year in a row, the Gibraltar girls' basketball season ended shy of the regional finals, this time with a loss to Gillett 59-56.

The Vikings led for much for the game thanks to a 16-0 run in the early stages of the first half. Maggie Moroney and Sage Krause each hit a pair of threes and Abbi Sitte used to speed to score 10 first-half points to give Gibraltar a 28-18 lead at the break. Halftime gave the Tigers the time needed to light a fire under its leading scorer Karissa Schaal. Held scoreless in the first half, Schaal scored all 17 points in the second frame to help give the Tigers a lead in the final two minutes. Trading free throws and lay-ups until the end, a last second heave from Krause was short, ending the season early for the Vikings. Sydney Young and Aubrey DeBauch also scored in double figures for the Tigers. The Vikings battled for the entire 36 minutes, led by 15 points from Sitte and 12 points from Krause.

The Vikings will lose Abbi Sitte and Nina Sitte to graduation after finishing the season 14-10.
