In a matchup between teams at the top of the Cactus League standings, it was San Diego getting the best of Milwaukee again on Tuesday afternoon. The Padres struck for seven runs in the bottom of the third while keeping the Brewers off the board entirely to cruise to a 9-0 victory. The Brewers defense did pitcher David Phelps no favors with two errors in the ill-fated third to help San Diego blow things open. The dagger was an Abraham Almonte grand slam to center field. Matt Hardy had replaced Phelps on the mound at that point.
San Diego tacked on a run in both the fifth and eighth innings. Milwaukee first baseman Logan Morrison had the Brewers’ only hit of the day, a single.
