Gibraltar loses regional final to Wausaukee on 105.1 WSBW

The Gibraltar Vikings came up short in its bid for a second straight regional title, losing to Wausaukee 79-70.

Both teams traded baskets in the opening minutes, but a 13-2 run by the Rangers gave the Vikings an uphill battle they would have to climb the rest of the game. The Rangers carried a 46-36 advantage into the break thanks to Tristian Pollard, Brandon Shigouri, and Hayden Renikow combining to score 29 points and causing several Viking players to be in foul trouble. Dominic Krauel scored 13 first-half points to lead the Vikings. The second half saw the Vikings get to within seven points late, but a three-point shot by Pollard followed by another two-point basket underneath put a stop to the comeback attempt. Renikow led all scorers with 23 points for the Rangers while Spencer Krause led the Vikings with 18. A tightly called the game, the Vikings had four of its five starters foul out and several others on both teams with at least three fouls.

The Vikings finish their season 7-18 and say good-bye to seniors Paul Hartmann, Brandon Stillman, Conor Duffy, and Dominic Krauel.
