The college sports landscape in Wisconsin this fall is becoming emptier by the day.
The Green Bay Athletics Department on Thursday announced its fall sports squads of volleyball, softball, golf, cross country, and soccer will not be competing until at least October. The decision erases the fall season for golf and softball and creates an all-Horizon League schedule for the other sports. The school's affiliate campuses in Manitowoc, Marinette, and Sheboygan have canceled their fall seasons entirely.
St. Norbert College saw its non-conference schedule cut out this fall. That pushes their first action against Midwest Conference opponents until the end of September.
The Wisconsin Badgers announced last week it would play a Big 10-only fall season this year. While the football team will try to reschedule its marquee matchup at Lambeau Field against Notre Dame, the athletic department could be on the hook for $1.75 million in committed non-conference games against Southern Illinois and Appalachian State according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
