Buhr leads K/D Tourney Field

Cooler water has returned to the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan, which could fire up the catches as things begin to stabilize this week.

Large waves, dense fog and a fast-moving storm reduced participation Saturday, but a dozen more 20-pound-plus "kings" were put to official tournament scales. The biggest of the day was a 28.12 for Gary Welch of Sturgeon Bay (pictured) at B&K Bait and Tackle @ Kap's Marina on Washington Island.

West winds are expected to settle the nearshore waters on the lake side of the K/D Peninsula Sunday, and light northwest winds are expected to start the day Monday before swinging around to light southeast.

More than $50,000 in cash and prizes are on the line. Tickets — $25 for the full tourney or $13 for a daily chance — are available at B&K Bait and Tackle, Jungwirth Ace Hardware, Baileys 57, JP Express north of Carlsville, Howie’s Tackle & Archery, Greystone Castle, Algoma BP (and Algoma JP Express), Accurate Marine & Tackle, and Center Court Convenience. Tickets are available 24/7 at both JP Express locations. Everyone in the boat age 10 and up must have a ticket, and fishing must be done in the Wisconsin waters off Kewaunee or Door counties.
