With the WIAA giving the go-ahead for fall sports, including football, volleyball, and soccer, on a two-week delay, there are still scheduling hiccups to sort out. Sturgeon Bay High School Athletic Director Todd Meikle says there are lots of discussions ongoing, and he had an idea of his own that would reignite some old rivalries. With Door County’s COVID activity level being classified as high, something that is reevaluated weekly, Meikle says it might be best for area teams to stay local. Meikle even wants to include Southern Door High School in a county-wide eight-man league.
Meikle says the most important thing to remember right now is that this is not the worst of times. He stresses that his grandfather lived through a Depression and two major wars in 20 years. A huge part of gaining that perspective is to begin to return to normal, including getting kids back on the ballfield.
