Spartans cross country gets win Friday, travels to Denmark Tuesday

They had to wait the entire weekend to find out, but the Luxemburg-Casco girls cross country team won their first meet of the season on Friday.

 

The Spartans won 20 to 63 over Wrightstown on Friday. Denmark fielded an incomplete team. They didn't have the top run, but the Spartans had their top five runners finish second through fifth to earn the top score. Megan Vandermause paced the team with a 21:41 time on the 5K course with their other four scoring runners finish with a 23:10 or better.

 

The boys' team narrowly got defeated by Wrightstown but topped Denmark 29, 34, 85. Spencer Thiry won the boys' race with a time of 18:22. The Spartans top five runners finished in the top 11 places and all finishing with a time better than 20:30. The Spartans had over 10 runners finish the 5K course with an average pace better than 7 minutes per mile.

 

The Spartans cross country teams run again Tuesday at Denmark against the Vikings and Fox Valley Lutheran beginning at 5:00 p.m.
