NHL drafts four with Gamblers ties

Four players with ties to the Green Bay Gamblers could see their careers continue in the NHL after this week's draft.

 

Green Bay Gamblers defenseman Mason Lohrei and forward Jackson Kunz were both selected in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.  Lohrei in the 2nd round (58th overall) to the Boston Bruins and Kunz in the 4th round (113th) to the Vancouver Canucks.  Also taken in the draft, Gamblers Affiliate list player Jackson Hallum, 3rd round (91st) Vegas Golden Knights and former player Tanner Dickinson, 4th Round (119th) St. Louis Blues. 

 

Lohrei, led all USHL Defenseman in assists (29) and was second in scoring (37).  The Verona, Wisconsin native, participated in the 2020 Bio Steel All-American Prospects Game and was named 2nd Team All-USHL in 2019-2020. Lohrei is committed to Ohio State.

 

Kunz spent the 2019-20 season at prep school power Shattuck St. Mary’s in Faribault, Minnesota.  In 45 games, Kunz tallied 40 goals and 29 assists.  The Grand Forks, North Dakota native has appeared in seven USHL games with the Gamblers over the last two years, recording two goals and an assist. Kunz, who was selected by the Gamblers in the 1st round of the 2018 Futures Draft, is committed to the University of North Dakota

 

Hallum, was chosen by the Gamblers in the 2020 USHL Entry Draft.  As a junior at

St. Thomas Academy in Minnesota, Hallum registered 35 points (18 goals & 17 assists) in

25 games. The Eagan, Minnesota native is committed to the University of Michigan.

 

Dickinson appeared in eight games for the Gamblers during the 2018-19 campaign. Dickinson spent this past year in the Ontario Hockey League with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds.

 

The Gamblers have now had 62 players with ties to the organization get drafted by the NHL, joining the likes of alums like Adam Burish, Blake Wheeler, and Ty Conklin. The season gets underway on November 7th when they host the Muskegon Lumberjacks. All home games this season will air on 104.1 WRLU.
